One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the idea of mindfulness. I’m glad that through the Peace Exchange, not only was I able to go to another part of the world, I was able to bring something back home that I can use for the benefit of my community, for the benefit of my city.

Henry Cervantes, a respected peace educator and community organizer, is the Program Manager for the Peace Exchange. Henry was sponsored by Mikva Challenge.

I became a Peace Builder because I started to lose faith in Chicago.  I started to become one of those people who said the violence is just going to get worse.  Once the Peace Exchange came around, I said, “This is it!”  This is something that can help me get out of that mindset and do something about it.

Marquetta Monroe, a Holy Family School alum, earned a

Giving myself the title of Peace Builder, I’m acknowledging that I can be peaceful with myself and that I can be peaceful with another person, more aware of those around me who need help.

I feel like I can do anything. I can keep the world awake. I can keep people conscious. I can continue to end the brutality that goes on in my neighborhood.
