The Class of 2013/2014
One of the most important lessons I’ve learned is the idea of mindfulness. I’m glad that through the Peace Exchange, not only was I able to go to another part of the world, I was able to bring something back home that I can use for the benefit of my community, for the benefit of my city.
Henry Cervantes, a respected peace educator and community organizer, is the Program Manager for the Peace Exchange. Henry was sponsored by Mikva Challenge. |
Let’s make peace cool. What if the new trend is youth peace? I think that’s something working for.
Jessica Disu aka FM Supreme, is a humanitarian hip-hop artist, peace activist, a co-founder of the Peace Exchange, and founder of the Chicago International Youth Peace Movement. She was sponsored by the Chicago International Youth Peace Movement. |
I became a Peace Builder because I started to lose faith in Chicago. I started to become one of those people who said the violence is just going to get worse. Once the Peace Exchange came around, I said, “This is it!” This is something that can help me get out of that mindset and do something about it.
Marquetta Monroe, a Holy Family School alum, earned a MA in mental health counseling from William James College and is in an advanced studies program to become a school counselor. "Quetta" was sponsored by Holy Family Ministries. |
Giving myself the title of Peace Builder, I’m acknowledging that I can be peaceful with myself and that I can be peaceful with another person, more aware of those around me who need help. Tim McBride earned a BBA from DeVry and is employed by a Chicago bank. Tim was sponsored by Free Spirit Media. |
